I had posted this thread earlier hoping to possibly get some help locating a replacement stay. I cracked my carbon seat stay on my Pony Rustler, and Salsa has no new stays in stock. If any of you might possibly know where to obtain one (new or used) please let me know. Thanks for your help!

Thanks. I've reached out to 3 different carbon frame repair companies. They all said the crack is too close to the pivot. I even asked one of the companies if they could hack together some sort of a Frankenstay (otherwise the bike is toast). They said it can't be done.

Won't salsa waranty it for something else?
Linkage bolt fell out, so it was my fault / not covered by warranty. Plus they told me that they don't have any seat stays or frames in inventory. I'd have been very happy to purchase one if they had anything, in on order to keep the bike. Unless I can locate a stay somewhere, this bike that's in otherwise excellent condition will become a parts bike.

Ask for a crash replacement, when they have one available.

Salsa is definitely not the easiest for any warranty.

True about not being the easiest to work with. A local Salsa dealer mentioned the possibility of "crash replacement". But when I asked Salsa about it they downplayed it. They said they have very minimal inventory right now. And they said that they could maybe look at doing something if I brought the bike back to the shop where I bought it from and sent the original invoice etc. I purchased the bike new from a dealer in California who had a last year's model on a sale price (I'm in Florida). It all becomes a quagmire!

Salsa indicated that this item is now obsolete. No plans for having it back in stock.

Good idea to check with more shops. Thanks. Can't hurt to try.

Not good but at least you know what you are dealing with.

I would also contact foreign/overseas dealers depending how much effort you want to put into this.

Find a carbon specialist that can build you a new part or someone who makes you a aluminum version?

Another option would to find a complete bike and use the rest as spare parts etc..

If this were my bike, I would clean the area as well as possible (maybe drip acetone on the spot), then use a low viscosity epoxy (or equivalent) to fill the gap as well as possible, then wrap with the material they use for casts and ride the bike a few times on mild terrain before letting it loose for full time activity. JMO! Still look for replacement using the suggestions above.

Does anyone know if this might work? I'd be open to trying it at this point. BTW, I asked Salsa about using something like JB Weld on the crack and they said it won't work.

If you do anything it will give Salsa a reason to deny your claim. It sucks being without a bike but chances are your home fix won’t work anyways. I would read your warranty very carefully. Just because Salsa doesn’t have a rear triangle doesn’t mean they are off the hook.

The problem I see with the wrap idea is that it's a location where there's clearance required for the rocker.

You could ask in one of two Facebook groups I know of, Salsa Cycles Owners Brigade (no sales) and one for Salsa and Surly sales (on-brand only). This would seem to suit both though given that you're in need. You might end up with a whole frame, though... or maybe someone would want your cracked one for spares

I have a large green pony rustler with a cracked bottom bracket. I believe the rear triangle is in fine shape. I may be able to help!
