Does anybody have any experience with the van dessel country road bob? I traded an old road bike for one and was wondering if anybody has slapped some 29'er tires on it? it seems to have a fair amount of clearance for fat tires but I don't have any to try without buying first.

Man, I really liked those bikes. The older ones had that "humped" or curved TT, kinda had the retro thing going. I always figured I'd grab one, but the 'bay supply seems to have dried up. Enjoy...

The CRB was on my short list due to the tire clearance you mentioned. I believe I read that they'll take a 38c tire. The Van D is definitely a head-turner and has potential for those willing to go the non-ferrous route. It's showing up in a lot of non-cycling men's magazines these days, so it's definitely gaining popularity of some sort.

I've got a swoopy-tubed one. Pics at http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?postid=315366#poststop
If you want a pic of the clearance running the Nanos, let me know and I'll get to it one of these evenings. I don't think you'll be squeezing any Exis in there, but maybe the newer, straight-tube models have more room.

Hey Joe, The tires you have on Donnas bike look to be the 40/40 All Terrainasaurus?

They seem to fit the bike nicely and I'm sure they are providing miles of pleasure for Donna (I had a set on my fixed gear that never seemed to show any wear) but it seems like there is not room for much more and Nano's are another size bigger. I am probably wrong however and you now have some Nano's aboard.

Which brings me to the real reason for my post. Perhaps I missed it but did you ever do a decent expose'/ride report for your new bike? I remember seeing a picture of it but that is all. Hope all is good.

You're right, Bob, they're the AllTerrainasaurus. It's been a while since I got 'em on closeout at Nashbar, and I'd forgotten. Thanks! They work fine on Donna's tow vehicle (which now has a Spectro P5 hub), but there's not room for much more than that 40mm tire. As to the Retrotec, I decided I had to have the new Salsa disc-specific wide rims, and so that beauty is hanging in the garage partially built. I'm dying to ride it, as it's been plenty dry here and riding season continues. If you, umm, want to loan me a disc rear wheel to get me by until Mikesee gets the Salsas in, I'd, uhh, pay the shipping and promise a full, comprehensive ride report. Really! Regards,

Joe, have just the ticket laying out in the garage. You know how to get ahold of me.
