Did anyone else check out Sette's new chain tensioner?

Talk about a copy.

In any case, how do these bolt-tensioners work? Since there is no spring, I'd be worried that you'd never get that nice balanced tension, but at the same time, you'd never worry about it being too loose or too tight, because you could control that will the bolt.

Yes, because there is no flexibility you will notice if your chain ring is not exactly lined up correctly. This causes an elliptical effect, and the chain will be slacker in certain parts of the rotation, making things less than smooth.

On the hand, because there is no flexibility, when you go over bumps the tensioner will not move giving less opportunity for your chain to fall off.

Overall chain tensioners suck because they sap valuable efficiency from the drivetrain.

They are also considerably cheaper than an eccentric rear hub.

I may just try to find that magic ratio.

Ya they are cheaper for sure, good way to test out the waters. A conversion can cost ~100 when all is said and done, might be a good idea to save for a monocog and get the real deal for 300 more.
