Hey,

So I just got home, and I'm going to edit this a bit as I was at the shop and in a rush to get this story out there.

Anyhow, yeah, Dennis, this guy I work with(we call him DH) put in for a 400 word essay and a $250 entry fee. The owners wanted to sell the shop but I guess didn't find the right buyer so they decided to give it away to the best candidate. To make a long story short, he wrote such a good essay, that he won. So he went down there last weekend to meet with the owners and get the details. Dennis is a good guy, been in the cycling biz for years running shops and managing, as well as working along side of me turning a wrench on beater bikes, building new ones, and selling on the floor. He's your average dude in a shop, but a great guy and knowledgable. Anyhow, the owners are turning over the keys to the shop, as well as most of the goods in it, and letting him run, manage, and do what he will. The shop is on a piece of property with their house, but he being in the industry, can't afford to buy a house as his family will be staying here in the Cleveland area until he gets it up and running. So, there's an unfinished apartment up above the shop where he'll be staying, probably finishing it off so it's livable, and running his biz. It's located on one of Maryland's major tow path area's with miles and miles of riding to be had for the begginers who enjoy lazy paved path rides to roadies hammering it out to xc dudes and possibly a fr scene. I told him that if he needs help, I'd be there to help him out with the fr/dh stuff ;)

It's just cool to see a guy who is a good worker, great with customers and smart get a chance to do his thing as he wants it. I wish him luck and hope he enjoys his new endevour. Check out the article in the link above, and if your in the area, stop in and support him!

Awesome!! Can't wait to hear more! He's one lucky SOB, and the owners of the shop sound like some very cool people.
