I know they've been a hit with the 26 inch crowd but I'd like to hear from those running the 29 inch version. I am mostly interested in using it as a rear tire so comments on things like volume, traction, side wall thickness, rolling resistance, tubless set up...would be appreciated.

Good tire. I like Conti's in general though. Low volume compared to stated width. Wear fast like most Contis. Hook up well, handle well, predictable. Feel light and fast on all sorts of terrain. I've been using them on the rear of a SS, and I like 'em! But I always buy what ever seems like a good buy and I just try 'em, ride 'em, and keep on movin on towards the next reasonable deal. I think I paid $25 each. Runing a tube, never had a flat on one and I am almost done with tire #2 (I bought three). I think the Conti rubber is really good - be it in a road tire or mountain bike tire.

You sure you have the Race King? I haven't seen any available yet (besides the stock ones on new Cannondales, but the tire had supposedly been redesigned since those were made)

Race Kings are OEM on Cannondale 29"ers. They are from the first run of 29"er Race Kings that were woefully undersized, (think true 1.8" size) and the aftermarket ones were recalled. Conti redid the mold to reflect a "true" 2 inch size and volume. As of today, there are none in at the warehouse. (Checked with our shop's Conti rep just hours ago.) They are due in soon though.

So, to recap: Cannondale 09 29 inch wheeled bikes have the undersized Race Kings. Aftermarket "true" 2.0" will be available soon. :)

2.4" MK is a great snow tire!

I like that tire on the rear wheel.

Update

I just recieved word that I was wrong about the Race King's width. It will be a true 2.2 incher.

Not a 2 incher as I stated earlier.

I think it will be a great tire at 2.2" and I can't wait to see one/ride one. Should be a killer Mid-western hard pack flyer. :)

Now just hope & pray Conti will make one with the same carcass and compound as the 26" 'supersonic' version.

Agreed. That would be really good.................but highly unlikely. ;)

Typically the premier treatments and casing layups are not done in 29"er sizes. Witness the Mountain King, which doesn't come in the sidewall protection version, or with the Black Chili compound.

But maybe, just maybe this will change with the Race King.

Use the 2.4 Mountain King molds and we'd really have something. I mean, really really have something. Or maybe they did and that's why it'd be a true 2.2, as the MK is undersized.

I like the tread pattern, but as GT mentioned, first batch of OEMs on Cannondales were narrow. I got a set of new take-off's for a future CX/Monster Cross project.

Have to chime in...

I saw one on an 09' Caffeine and really liked it but noticed it was really narrow. I liked the tread and feel. Looks like it will roll fast and probably corner well. We will see.....

my MK2.4 is everything but undersized - just fits into the SF rear and also fills up well the rear of my Sultan. the MK2.2 is much much smaller though an not 2.2".
