I am considering buying a IH Warrior trail DS, it's competitors would be the Ibex [33-34 lbs] and a 2005 jamis dakar [32 lbs]

I really like the looks of the iron horse, but im concerned about how heavy is it?
Any owners have comments on ride quality?
Thanks.

What do you plan on using it for? XC or all mountain or commuting or ?? What kind of terrain do you ride in?

If you plan on getting serious into biking then this isn't the bike for you. For a few hundred more you can get into a DW link bike (Mk3 or Azure) that is a much better ride.

As a single pivot suspension it really needs a heavily damped platform shock (like a RP3) for decent climbing.

I had a 2005 Warrior Pro DS SE (sram x7 drivetrain, basic coil over shock and fork, good seat and bars) as my first real mtn bike - it was a damn good bike for $650. I have since moved up a couple of notches (06 Mk3 Expert and a couple others), but for a starter bike its pretty good.

I bought an 05 Warrior Trail for my girlfriend as her 1st real bike. Not nearly the component spec of the DS SE model, but it was almost $250 cheaper on clearance than mine was. Now that she's getting better we are thinking of upgrading to another Mk3 expert..

A friend and serious roady told me when I was getting started: Just get the expensive bike now, its cheaper in the long run. He was right.

The Mk3 Comp for $1099 is a smoking deal at rscycle. The Azure Comp is the same price for a more XC oriented bike.

I don't know how serious is serious. I don't have a lot of time to ride, but I like to ride.. Each time we go is short though compared to lots of people, mabye 3-4 hours. With school and all, spring break and summer are it.. mabye every other weekend each summer..

Hey 300 im thinking of getting the 06 MKIII at rscycle. Since you have it and have more expertise than myself is there anything that i am going to have to change out on that bike? I've heard stories of the rear shock not holding air, and something about the shock pivots rattling and not being able to stay tightened. As you can tell im new and since you have actual experience with the bike i'd appreciate your thoughts and opinions.

I've only had mine for a couple of weeks and about 100 miles, so I'm definately not an expert, but this is what I've dug up or experienced:

1) loose shock pivots - Iron Horse is sending me the "tight tolerance" ones because mine are sloppy
2) 5th element shock - no problems to date, I'm actually surprised at how well this shock works
3) if you live in a wet climate you'll need to drill a hole in the bottom bracket to let water out. I'm in AZ.... no hole for me
4) rear wheel is a bit flexy, so I put a beefy one on that I had lying around
5) chain hits the rear triangle, protect with a lizard skin or old tube
