It really depends. I raced sport singlespeed in the mid atlantic super seriers this year on a scandium kona which was quick and snappy. After the season I finished my SIR9 build setup singlespeed. I weigh 145-150 and definitely feel the sluggishness/flexiness of the steel vs the scandium. BUT, I have geared up the SIR9 on occasion and it feels faster as I am hammering less and spinning more...i.e. less torque on the frame sitting vs standing. If you are not racing and are running full gears/1x9 the BB should be adequate. Its a real smooth ride. Just my 2cents.
