Moved to California (W. LA) 3 months ago. Since then I been exploring and trying to find a way to ride from my house to the Corral-Kanan Backbone trail. I few wrong turns in the past sent me way off course.

Yesterday I finally found it. I was running out of daylight to ride the backbone trail over to Kanan but I made it to he Coral Cyn. trail head. The trip was 72miles round trip with a ton of really nice panoramic views. I wish I brought my good camera. The climb up Bulldog was gnarly, something like 4 miles. Here is the route. http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=4414.
Saw three snakes. Two I have pics of and the baby rattler I saw I was to tired to grab my camera phone.

Must have been an amazing ride!
It was great still on a high from it. I leave this week for six months but when I get back I plan on exploring the San Gabriels, I hear they are pretty awesome. Next time I come out I plan on finding some riding buddies, its always more fun to ride with people no matter what the length of the ride is.

Nice job! Thanks for uploading your GPS route... I'd like to attempt it.... any chance you have a turn-by-turn description?

I am not sure about how to provide a turn by turn...I just bought an Edge 205 and if you tell me how to get a turn by turn off it...I would have no problem on providing it....

On the way home from my route, I took Mohulland back most of the way cuz I was cutting it extremely close on daylight.

Oh sorry, I just meant a very brief route description.

Does this sound about right?

- Left home.
- Went up Westridge
- Turned LEFT on to Mulholland
- Took it past Reseda... all the way to pavement
- Continued on Mulholland Dr to Topanga Canyon
- LEFT on Topanga Canyon
- RIGHT on Summit-to-Summit Motorway (dirt?)
- At Old Topanga Canyon, continue straight into Calabasas Peak Motorway (dirt?)
- T's into Stunt Road
- RIGHT on Stunt Road
- LEFT on Mulholland Highway
- LEFT into Malibu Creek State Park
......
- UP Bulldog

Alternate climb to ridge

If Bulldog isn't enough climbing, you can turn left on Cold Canyon (third left on Mulholland, heading west from the bottom of Stunt) and cut over to Piuma (first stop sign). Right on Piuma and down to Las Virgenes (signal), left over the bridge and past the small parking lot to the fire road on the right. This is Mesa Peak Motorway, and you'll climb all the way up to the triangle junction with Castro Crest Motorway. You want to turn right to head west on Castro Crest, but you'll be stopped by a huge landslide that has removed the road. There's a use trail branching right - time for hike-a-bike - that climbs up to the ridge, where you can hop back on the ridge for the rest of the ride. Don't go bombing past this turnoff on the return ride, as the drop off the edge of landslide will definitely leave a mark.
