I just won raffle for a weeks stay at a condo in Frisco, CO. I do a lot of endurance racing and was thinking of planning a vacation around a race or some epic ride. I have never been to CO before and have lots of research to do. A few questions.

Weather wise, when is the best time of year to come out for mountain bike racing/riding?

What endurance type events located near Frisco area would you suggest I look into?

Thanks, BRD

Hmm, I think I would wait till July if I were in your shoes. There is a race in Breckenridge (just a few miles from frisco) called the Firecracker 50 .. I think it's a 50 mile MTB race.
Congrats on the win

Congrats on your prize.
There is lots of great riding up there. I lived in Frisco for a few years. HT05 is correct that some of the high stuff melts out late, so plan your trip accordingly.
The Firecracker 50 around July 4 is one option for a big race. If you are into adventure racing, the Adventure Xtream series has a Breckenridge race that includes Trekking, Paddling, Mt Biking, Orienteering, etc. That course usually comes right through Frisco. Tentative date is Aug 5, 06: http://www.gravityplay.com/axs/index.htm
You might also want to check out Montezuma's Revenge. It is less than 1/2 hour away: http://www.montezumasrevenge.com/
Other close venues are Vail and Leadville. I think Vail has a 24 hour race and Leadville has the Silver Rush.
Enjoy

The Firecracker 50 is alot of fun with a Main Street start right before the July 4th parade. I think Vail does have some sort of 24 hour event, as well as the Ultra 100 with team options and a 50 miler('bout the end of July) Silver Rush is "bout the 2nd weekend in July. Frisco is a great place to be right in the middle of all the riding one needs. Usually a couple local series are going by end of May. Professional bike shops with knowledge and stuff. ...If your condo stay can wait till next summer. Usually end of May everything is open to ride, with an occassional snowbank to hike through. CAn be darn cold in the mornings yet. Some afternoon showers more so in later summer.

summitt map at skyterrain.com

At the last poker ride up here they gave out waterproof/tearprrof maps of this sumitt county/vail area.. They are at skyterrain.com and really have all the trails up here..There are some rides out of frisco and you could do a epic loop almost everyday on something new..Local race series is at mavsports.com and local fat tire society is sfts.us Local bike shops also have a free trail book..
