Will these older Avid levers work with V-brakes? or are they only compatible with canti's? I'm looking to upgrade my vintage Rocky from XT low profile canti's to XTR V-brakes (which I've already picked up) and looking for replacement levers.

No personal experience, but many used a device with their older levers called a travel agent, google for it.
thanks for the tip, but i think i'd rather stick with getting replacement levers, as opposed to trying to fiddle with something to make my existing levers work.

Doesn't really look like they'd work...just going by the picture, and the distance from the pivot to where the cable mounts...hard to say for sure, though...
that's my problem, i'm getting mixed information regarding these older levers. some say it works fine, some say they are canti's only. now i got some info that depending on when they were made, there were "v-chip" versions, or "v-chip" upgrades for the levers to make them v-brake compatible. but other says even with out the "v-chip" they worked fine.

the blue one's don't look like they've got the v-chip. They will work on v's without it, but not as well as newer one's with more cable pull... kinda mushy feeling IIRC. Even with the v-chip, not as positive feeling as some newer SD 5/7's. That said, I used 'em for years w/ v's before getting newer levers.

here's a coupla links with pics of v-chips
