It may be better to talk privately. The amount of profanity, references to bestiality, and the level of insults and threats that have been recorded on the forum have been extreme, and have been noted.
The day you chose to post the names of our private roads you chose to become responsible, both ethically and legally, for any and all bike/biker activity in this community. The day after trash was scattered at the head of the road, I saw a police car here so it is possible that one of the neighbors has already called them. There have been 30 bikes here in the last couple days.
At this point, we have had harassment by cars with bikes on them, and vandalism in our community, all as a response to a simple, respectful request to avoid trespassing on our private property. Three sets of legally posted no trespassing signs are being ignored by bikers who come onto our roads, and have been ignored repeatedly by you, as has been stated.
One (or two) of your community members actually took the time to call the FS and the city of Sedona, and then posted that indeed, these roads are private, (owned completely by the residents) and there is no FS trail access or public easement through this community. Last Sunday about a dozen bikes used the road, at a speed so fast a resident said they couldn’t even be counted accurately. This is extremely dangerous in a private, equestrian community. And the responsibility for anything that happens here is at least partly yours, TD.
So we ask you, is it in your best interest, or the interest of the biking community, to have this matter possibly become public in the Red Rock News, or for you and the local bike shops to have to personally deal with the police if our private property continues to be trespassed upon, or further violated? We would rather not have this issue escalate to this level, so we ask you, what steps need to be taken now to get the word out that Color Cove is private and the residents require this to be honored?
How do we get our Road off the underground trail maps that shops give out?
And the biggest question: Are you willing to advise the biking community in at least some manner that doesn't interfere with your credibility with them, to honor our private property and discontinue illegal trespassing, and remove any posts that direct people into our community? And discontinue bringing riders here?
An ambassador by definition promotes good will between people. How can you best serve this role?
Your post:
If in fact Color Cove lives at #85 Color Cove from what I can ascertain from Google Maps he lives up the road from where we ride our bikes. That is at least a plus since we aren't constantly in his face.
I am not sure how he accesses the surrounding dirt trail system, but I am assuming (if he doesn't have social access out his back door or somewhre close to his house) he might ride down Color Cove Rd. 500 plus yards to Coyote Pass Rd. where he hangs a right and rides another 200 plus yards to the start of the dirt trail system.
Also, the protocols you requested to help horses and bikes have safe encounters are great for those who live here and read them, and who actually care about each others safety (which quite a few on the forum have said they don't, with great disrespect). But they do no good when bike shops and forums and individuals such as yourself send tourists directly into our private equestrian community through underground maps, posts, group rides, and GPS systems, people who have not had such an education and may have never ridden with horses.
Thank you,
Color Cove Residents
