So I ordered a 400lb spring for my 08 7point. When I ordered it I specified that I wanted a 3.28 X 400 (to match the 300 X 3.28 that came stock on the bike).

When I received the spring I ordered, it was 2.80 X 400 so I called the shop to say WTF and they told me that this is the size/length that Fox recommended. I reailxzed that the length would probably be slightly different but not by so much.

Can anyone offer any insight in this? Is my shop FOS?

So... I stared a while at those 3.28 and 2.80 numbers and wondered what they meant. I found the answer on the TF Tuned Spring Calculator Page:
Fox mark springs by quoting the maximum travel the spring will go to before it becomes coil-bound. eg 1.65 = 1.5" stroke, 2.35 or 2.38 = 2.0" or 2.25" stroke, 2.8 = 2.5" or 2.75" stroke & 3.25 = 3.00" stroke.

The shock's stroke length on the 7 point is 2.75 inches, right? If so, that 2.80 x 400 spring that you received will be okay.
