Coil Shock for 05 Giant Reign 1

Does anybody know if you can stick a coil shock on a 05 giant reign 1???? I know this might seem like a simple question to some of you  out there and I apologise but i'm not all that technically minded.

I want to use the reign for a bit more freeride stuff (i've purchased another trail bike) and think that a coil shock would be better than the stock manitou 3 way swinger.

Thanks for looking.

Some folks have installed the old Vanilla R coil shocks on them....since the diameter of the spring is narrow enough to fit in the pierced downtube.

You want the Vanilla R 7.875 eye to eye and 2.25 of travel. You'll need 1/2 inch OD spacers if you currently have a Manitou on there (believe Manitou's are 12mm). Spacers / bushings should be 8mm x 40mm for the bottom and 6mm x 28.6mm for the top.

You can send the Vanilla R to Push and have them do a DHX like setup on it. I'm in the middle of this process now.

Good Luck!
Hey, thanks for the responses. I'll be off to look for that shock.

Cheers

Hi.

Are you sure that swinger 3 way from giant reign 2005 is 7.875 eye to eye and 2.25 of travel

I just want to change it and I don't know how much travel I ought to have in my new shock.
I know that it's 7.875 lenght but travel ???

The Swinger 3 Way is 200mm eye to eye and 50mm (~2") travel on the 05/06 Reigns. Manitou use metric dimensions whereas Fox use imperial.
With the longer shock piston you get something like another 1/2" rear travel. Only cleviet is that the front derailleur contacts the lower swing link in the granny ring, not that I'd ever rage downhill in the granny...
