Some folks have installed the old Vanilla R coil shocks on them....since the diameter of the spring is narrow enough to fit in the pierced downtube.

Coil Shock for 05 Giant Reign 1
Does anybody know if you can stick a coil shock on a 05 giant reign 1???? I know this might seem like a simple question to some of you 
out there and I apologise but i'm not all that technically minded.
I want to use the reign for a bit more freeride stuff (i've purchased another trail bike) and think that a coil shock would be better than the stock manitou 3 way swinger.

With the longer shock piston you get something like another 1/2" rear travel. Only cleviet is that the front derailleur contacts the lower swing link in the granny ring, not that I'd ever rage downhill in the granny...
