Once that Brin Fire started, I knew it was coming. Wonder how soon before the other NF's close. One of my co-workers said they were closing up gates last weekend to access in Tonto too.Cannonball said:http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/news/2006/6-19-06-forest-closes.shtml

We just may have to do a Prescott run up there this weekend before they close it down too. So far from what I've read, Prescott NF is still open as of today (w/fire restrictions of course). We had a blast up there last month at both Granite Basin and Lynx Lake area and have been wanting to go back...Jayem said:Just in case anyone is wondering, the forest service is covering their bases, Bill Williams Mtn in the Kaibab forest will also be closed. I haven't checked our own forest out yet.
I'm in...................but you probably could have figured on that.:thumbsup:su.ling~ said:We just may have to do a Prescott run up there this weekend before they close it down too. At this rate Tonto will probably close as well. It's the dumbest thing ever to close Hawes down here in the Valley, but it's officially in Tonto NF.AzSteel said:Being somewhat new to northern Arizona this comes as a shock. If the forrest around Prescott closes what do MTBrs do? I might have to pull out my lycra and ride the roadbike![]()

What about you fine folks ? :skep:
Thanks for the heads-up. I guess we'll have to stay longer in COsu.ling~ said:Total closures like this aren't that common but we've had a dry year with too much fuel to burn for these darn fires. Generally they will close them down until we get some decent moisture and the fire danger drops so it could be closed most of the summer. If monsoons drop tons of rain up there, they may open it back up. Monsoons generally hit a few weeks into July but some years the monsoons don't produce much rain...Hard to tell for sure, but I would venture to guess that it will probably still be closed by the time you visit.
You should probably modify your riding plans. I assume the National Forests will be closed until they get some rain and the Forest Service determines that the fire danger has been reduced to a reasonable level. That's the way these closures have worked out in the past.aword4you said:Hubby and I will be returning through AZ in two weeks from our UT/CO bike trip and had plans to ride the Little Bear Loop in Flagstaff and a bunch of trails in Sedona (e.g. Bell Rock, Templeton, Submarine, Chicken Point, etc.).
Is the NF going to be closed all summer and no trail access at all? I've never run into this sort of thing, so any info that can be provided would be great.
I guess if the NF in Sedona is simply going to be closed we'll really have to re-evaluate our last weekend.
TIA.
Yes, the entire Coconino NF is closed to all usersaword4you said:Is Flagstaff the same way? Trails all closed?
