Chime in here.

Do you live or work in Cobb Cty?
Where do you ride mostly?
What other outdoor activities are you involved in (keep it PG-13 please)?
Are you a SORBA member? If so, what chapter or are you 'at large'?
Are you involved in other cycling or outdoor related clubs in Cobb Cty? If so, which ones?

Just so you know, we're launching a 2 yr trail work project with the NPS at Sope Creek which will yield us 8-10 miles of SINGLETRACK trail. Hopefully that entices you enough to respond or drop me a PM / email.

Thanks!
Charles

I work in Kennesaw and live in Cherokee. I am excited to hear about Sope Creek. I used to ride there about ten years ago when there were still quite a few of legal trails open. When are they starting the work? It would be great to get a lot of people involved and get trails opened sooner rather than later. I am an Imba / Sorba member, just renewed my membership yesterday actually. Mountain biking and hiking with wife and dogs are my two outdoor activities.

Trail design has been complete for the area from 'Death Valley' south to the main trail. An RFP for the design of the north section is on the market now. Construction of (4) major re-routes will commence early March with completion by 31July09. Construction of the new north sections will likely be in FY10.

However, starting in January, we will be doing workdays pretty much anytime you want but I am reviewing a schedule presently with NPS for major workdays. The efforts will be focused on maintenance of existing singletrack that will remain as part of the final system and once the rough construction of the re-routes starts, we'll shift to doing finish work on those bits. After the re-routes are done, we'll go back to the existing trails that will be remaining. I and several others will be out there often so keep in touch if you can / want to help.

My email is clmyrickjr at g mail dot com. Look forward to working with ya!

Hey Charles..

Live in Acworth, work in Midtown. Which places Sope creek directly in my commute route. I will ride there whenever there are more and better trails than the two miles there now.

I'm a Paulding SORBA member, and ride the road bike when its wet as my other outdoor activity.

I ride all over.

Al,
Thanks. Keep on the lookout for more info and workdays. We're going to be cranking them out every month in '09, so there'll be plenty of opportunity for everyone to get involved.

Trish,
Thanks! With the new stuff developing at Sope, I think you'll find that you'll be able to get your mtn fix just OTP without having to drive north 2 hours. The NPS wants it to be a backcountry type experience for all trail users, and that's what a lot of it is right now but we're helping them add to that a bit. Don't worry, I'll need your help too in a number of ways so don't feel left out!

Are you doing anything with Bike Cobb or CID / TCID? I didn't realize Sorella was just a road team :skep:

Great news! I'll help out. Can you shed a little more light on the trail details? Will the "fall line" trail be eliminated?

Also, unless I'm missing it I didn't see this posted on Sorba forums yet... any reason?

Thanks!

Which fall line trail? There are lots! But yes, sections of the main doubletrack will be closed as part of this process.

Did not post on SORBA b/c I know many riders who frequent Sope check in here and not SORBA for various reasons. I'm just trying to capture some of that audience.
Sope Creek was the first place I rode a mtn. bike.

I'd love to help improve Sope Creek. I've got a lot of early mountain bike memories there (and it's a lot of fun to use those trails on the commute:thumbsup: ) Just let me know when.
I live and work in Cobb County, mostly ride at Blankets and Big Creek. I also do a little road riding, but prefer MTB. As far as other stuff, well, that hasn't been much more than recovering from cancer treatment the past year. I'm a Sorba/IMBA member, actually I need to renew as my membership, which expired on the 8th. Money's been pretty tight lately, but it's worth the sacrifice. For a chapter, I suppose the Woodstock chapter would be closest, but I've never really had much chance to participate. Not involved with any other clubs.

Sope Creek, huh? Sounds great. We need more trails around here. I work at Dobbins ARB, in Marietta, so that's not too far away at all. I can't wait. Please let us know when the work parties will be, and I'll try to make it out when I can.
Do you live or work in Cobb Cty? I have a place in Vinings and in Roswell

This is great to hear!! Is there a map or layout of the proposed new trail we can look at? When will you have the schedule of work days? I'll make sure to hit it up a few times and get dirty with you guys. Please keep us informed !
Charles,

I'm still here too. In fact, when I am riding it's usually Cochrane Shoals. I need to expand a little and dedicate time to the bike as opposed to the commute (I work at Perimeter, live off Holly Springs in Marietta).

Email works best for me!
Hey guys,
Sorry for being out of touch. I just posted some info about our work party this coming weekend. Starting April, we're likely to have WPs of soem sort every weekend our there. The new sections will be cut in by the first week of April and we'll have MORE than enough finish work to keep us busy.

Caddy, I still have your number so I'll give you a ring. We're having a social at Mellow Mushroom on Windy Hill Thursday night at 730pm. Swing by if you can.

Thanks for your help!
