Hi, first post and first 24 hr race. I am riding the hardcore 24 with a co-worker and just wondering what kind of strategies we should be using. Not looking for training advice as it is a little to late for that. How many laps to do before switching riders, day laps vs night laps, nutrition, fluid intake, what to bring, etc. Basically any advice you can give a newb for a first co-ed 24 hr race. Thanks

Last year the course was pretty fast 45 min to an hour laps. Then it poured out. If the weather is nice and course is dry it will be a fast course. There were no major climbs. If it rains again the laps could get a lot longer. I would say switch every 2 or 3. one lap does not give the other rider much of a break. The nice thing is you ride through the camping area so you can grap water bottles and snacks right from you camp site with out leaving the course. You don not have to fill your camelback with junk. The course was freshly cute last year so it made it slippery and very muddy in the rain. Bring mud tires.

Are you riding tag-team? I would do single laps. For food, I would start with typical race foods (bars), but my the middle of the night, probably want more real food (oatmeal cookies, fruit). Watch drinking too much gatorade, as I find it can cause some real gut raught. I've never done this, but after my last 24 hour (team of 5), I found getting up 2-3 times during the night was horrible; so I would almost consider doing 2-3 laps at night, so each person gets a long sleep.
