Close the darn gates!!!!!!

Did LPL Saturday, (little pan loop, Philbo). EVERY gate was left open. It was somebody that probably parked at Rock Springs, I was the only car at Table Mesa. It may seem like a little thing but let me tell you how much pull the cattle industry has in this state. They could throw a big enough fit to get it closed. They lease that land for open range grazing and have traditional rights.

It's not a big deal to close the damn things

right on--we don't want to get on the grazing lease folks bad side. They could just say no to the trail gates or make things "difficult" and/or delay the BCT project.

I think sometimes we leave a gate open, thinking someone or a group is coming through soon. But they may turn around for some reason and the gate stays open indefinately, so it's probably best to go ahead and close it--it's the right thing to do.
All the gates were closed up today! Sometimes people ask if they should leave them open for you and I always say "No!". It is pretty easy to open them yourselves.
The BLM and the Black Canyon Trail Coalition are working on designing a combination bicycle cattle guard and horse gate to be placed at the high volume gate crossings between Black Canyon City and Table Mesa road. So until the new bike cattle guards are built and installed (hopefully sometime in 2010) please close all the gates, even if you find them open.
