Close MTB lift parks?

1853 Views 12 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  ~gomez~
I live in la crosse, WI area and am looking for bike lift access parks to go to this summer. I really want to do some epic riding this year. Just a recreational rider I have never raced but I live for mountain biking and have a deep passion for it. Anything from backcountry XC to shredding downhill I love. So I am looking for parks closest if possible.

The only one I've heard of/been to is Marquette Mountain in the U.P.
How would you rate riding there? Was it worth the trip?
Yes its worth it!, but why do you need a lift? Riding up is an integral part of the sport and finding areas with lifts in the midwest is limiting. Where is there epic riding with a lift in the midwest? Lots of great XC riding in Wisconsin to make epics. Even in the rockies there are only a handful of ski ares that do it and those are big terrain ski areas. If you head up to Marquette take the time to trip over to Copper Harbor where you will find a mind blowing and ever growing trail system. They are planning a 100 mile system and probably are busy building right now. They have two full time trail builders up there that really know what they are creating! Marquette, aside from the ski area, has two other biking trails. Stop in at the Local Bike Shop or go online for more info.
If your interested in Marquette check this out...sounds like you'll want to get your pass ahead of time or no lift access this season.

It's completely different type of riding on a bike that doesn't pedal well uphill. the bikes you are riding would literally break on the drops and jumps that he is probably looking for.

OP....check out nordic mountain may 20-21. best lift access DH in wisconsin.
Looks awesome! Wow I'm excited now!
So... I'll be at Nordic Mountain for the DH weekend, but the only reason it's the best lift access in Wisconsin is because it's the only lift accessed riding in Wisconsin (at least that I know of).

haha, i guess that is a good point. I still love their trails though, I'd say for DH/FR stuff around WI it is the best.

Devil's head is awesome, but no lift access and a DH/FR bike is overkill and not needed.
I read somewhere on the net that Chestnut Mountain in Galena, Ill-noise is going to offer summer MTB lift service. I think* that's not too far of a drive from LaCrosse.

*Disclaimer - I may not know what I'm talking about, but this is the internet, so proceed at your own risk - call ahead - consult your spirit guide - when in doubt, be nice and don't forget to tip your waiter or waitress
Been riding mountain bikes since 1986. Was a ranked National rider on the Norba circuit. Won two state championships, blah blah blah blah. Have owned DH bikes. Use to live in New Mexico for 15 years where I did lifts to DH courses at Angel Fire, Los Alamos, Vale, Durango,...and have ridden some of the most rediculously technical hard and fast stuff in the Rockies, especially Monarch Crest, Continental Divide in 4 states, Colorado trail...all of it. Molas Pass in Durango plus adding on Hermosa. So !!!! This sight is for posting communications. Nothing was said to insult. When mentioning epic riding that means mileage not how many runs were made in a day by lift access.
:prft: Wisbiker and Steve'O - Why are you making me moderate the forum, while I'm out in Fruita and I should be riding my bike?

This is a pretty small community by mtbr standards and this board doesn't usually require very much, in the way of moderation, so today, I'm going to try an experiment... I'm giving you both the opportunity to moderate your own posts to take out the personal attacks. I'm day tripp'n out to Moab till tomorrow so I'll check back in hopes that you can express your viewpoints without the need for me to come back and delete the stuff that doesn't belong.

I hope to be pleasantly surprised upon my return......

Thanks fella's...two perfect gentlemen:madman:
