Question:

How many of you guys are riding either clipless pedals or platforms for AM riding?

And, what brand/models?

Man...don't you think this issue has gotten enough ink?...or bandwidth...or electronic particles...or whatever other cosmic communication medium exits? Honestly, I love good discussion, but this issue has so many elements of preference and application, that a simplistic poll accomplishes nothing. Clipless/Platform pedal discussions should probably be somewhat specific to achieve some kind of useable content. I'm sorry to sound like an old curmudgeon, 2ndgen, but there it is.

I guess you're right.

I thought it was such a simple question and never knew it had been done to death already.

Should've done a search.

But, I'd still like to know what the current trend is.
I hit a hard trail recently and was the only one with clipless.
Made me wonder why.

And also, what the current preferences are for pedals (both styles).

After having done a search, I see that this issue was addressed twice out of the last 125 pedal related posts (the last time was last week).

So, I guess this thread is officially...not neccessary.

:p

However, who's using Time ATAC Z's?

Those look like the best of both worlds.
Somebody should take the best/most informative clipless vs. platform thread and make it a sticky.

I ride Crankbrothers Candys. Really depends on preference; I've ridden clipless since 2000, but what you like is what goes.

True.

I think there are a few repetative topics that should be made into stickies.
Plus the poll needs a both option.

I ride both.

No, he was talking about pedals ... not your balls! ;) j/k!
I don't use pedals - I have pegs mounted to my BB
I walk my bike uphill - then just fukkin coast on the DH
i don't like this poll because there is no „sometimes" or „it depends" option

i ride clipless always have, i never unclip in techy sections just makes me want to put my foot on the ground. Just bought some candy sl's, great pedals so far.
Shimano PD-MX30 DX Platforms when shuttling or riding the ski lifts, otherwise I'm always riding ten year old Time ATAC Carbons. All on the same Foes FXR.

Chris.
I am relatively new to clipless pedals, but I love them so far. I am riding shimano 520's with Cannondale shoes, which were the only shoes avaliable in my size locally.

I sometimes miss the platforms, mainly when approaching larger drops or jumps. I get worried that I won't be able to ditch the bike mid-air if I feel something go wrong. Otherwise I absolutely love them, they really help me keep momentum in the techy sections.
clipped all the time even for the sp...... my AM bike has spd 520's, My HT has SPD pdm545's and my SS HAS no pedals as of yet(Still Building) and Spec Tahoe shoes........
