Does this mean I need to junk them?

I've seen you can buy replacement top plates (the front metal part on each side of the pedal, NOT the rear metal plate that you adjust tension of), but again those are the front of the clip-in interface so I'm not sure that they would help much.

I replaced the plates a long time ago. I think it worked. They’re not too expensive, so you might want to give it a shot.
