I use ZEP citrus degreaser...but I simply put my chain in an old Nalgene (you know, the ones that poison you) and shake vigorously for a minute or two.
Should work in a chain scrubber too, I buy it by the gallon at Home Depot for under $10
I've been having good results with rubbing alcohol. I like it because it decreases fairly well, but the best part is that it evaporates quickly from the chain.
I've used Finish Line Citrus Biosolvent Degreaser, Finish Line Super Bike Wash, Muc Off NanoTech Bike Cleaner, and Pedros Green Fizz Bike Wash, all with good results. With all of them you gotta be sure not to get any your rotors or pads.
The more pure the alcohol the better. Although, keep in mind this stuff is really flamable and the fumes are not good for you at all.

Dish soap and water, blow dry.
Charcoal lighter fluid, kerosene, Simple Green, lemon juice.
A lot of what "works" has to do with how you plan to dispose of the waste and what lube you are washing off, oil needing a stronger cleaner than wax. Not good to dump lighter fluid down your kitchen sink.
