Chinese Shimano derailleurs for sale on PB, Ebay

Out of desperation, I ordered an SLX 12 speed derailleur from an Ebay seller based in China. I was initially duped as ebay listed the item location as being in Washington State but it looks as though the selller is based in China. The seller marked the item as “shipped” shortly after the sale so it is too late now to cancel the transaction outright.

The good news is that I can return it for a refund less shipping and the shipping return address is from Washington State.

Has anyone else bought any shimano components from chinese sellers?

Btw, I will post pics of the derailleur here once it arrives, so everybody can see what the fake derailleur looks like before I send it back.

I bought a complete Shimano Deore drive train from 007 bike through Aliexpress (007Bike Store - Amazing prodcuts with exclusive discounts on AliExpress). Everything appears to be genuine and after about 3,000 miles of use it is still operating as expected.

I have a counterfeit XTR chain in my possession.

I had the same question on an XT set as it's basically the only place with stock for reasonable rates. Seems like with PayPal there's no drawback to giving it a shot.

For reference, here are the advertised photos for the derailleur. I will follow up with actual pics in the next week or so when derailleur arrives..

I completely get the desperate part of this as I patiently wait for an ice-tech 203 rotor. Staying away from politics here, but China continues to undermine the planet as a whole and legit businesses like Shimano. They cut the legs out from businesses that worked hard to get where they're at. Contact Shimano they will be happy to look at pics and confirm whether it's counterfeit or not. On a personal level I would return anything counterfeit/chinese made and maybe look to used market here or elsewhere. Or wait just a little longer.

I have a cassette I ordered from my LBS in March of 2021 that I'm still waiting on. Not urgently. I knew it was going to take forever to get here and it has. This has kind of gone beyond the "being patient" phase.

I don't believe that anyone is counterfeiting these items, they're all real Shimano products. My guess is that they are "grey market", e.g. some company in China bought large quantities for a low price as if they were going to build bikes with them, and they're just selling them individually without packaging. You probably don't get a warranty on them unless your LBS is willing to back you up on them, but that's the only downside I see.

Make sure the part number didn't change, and you're waiting for something that will never come. Happens occasionally.
I bought a Chinese SLX derailleur from ebay. Not sure if its fake or not, but it works flawlessly and it came in what appears to be legit packaging. If its fake, its a damn good fake.
Its no different than what the UK and mainland European shops do. I bet they are 100% legit parts.

I've bought many shimano parts from from Ebay from China. The are all 100% legit parts in retail packaging. My guess is there seem to be a surplus of available parts overseas and the demand is higher here in the US.

I've bought Shimano parts off Chinese Ebay sellers for years now, and they've all worked flawlessly. Shimano manufactures in Taiwan, which is sort of part of China, so no idea why people get so upset about it all. Also bought a bit of Shimano gear off Ali Express, & it's been genuine & of excellent quality too. If you buy previous generation components, it's ridiculously cheap too. WIth the current global goings on, shipping time can be rather extreme though.
Edit -the worst thing I've had happen is I got an XT chain that was advertised as an XTR. Still cheap even for XT.

sounds good to me.
Are you sure about that? I don't remember ever seeing a China sticker on Shimano stuff and it seems like most is labeled Japan...
I've seen Japan and Singapore. They may be making low end products I don't handle in China.
Anyway, I've bought Shimano parts from eBay sellers in China many times and they have always been legit.
