The forecasters said it would be raining by the time I got up today. It wasn't. One look at the radar map and my son said "You better get a move on, dad."

So off I went. Yesterday was a stunning road ride to Crystal Springs reservoir. Except for the parts where I had to ride Highway 92 and highway 280, it was swell!

Loll reported last night that Fremont Older conditions were good so I headed that way. The parking lot was full of cars with no bike racks. Many hikers had the same idea.

The sun was shining but the hills were dark.

Editorial: Most gnar berm are just annoying to others and illegal. This second one is actually undercutting the hillside and is directly below the deck of a resident. Stop riding and carving these things in such blatant areas.

Yummm Bacon!

I like the last photo the most! Yum! I love Bacon!

Glad you got a ride in FC. Still trying to do part of that stage of the TOC, ehh? It's funny, I've ridden from Tomales down to Bonny Doon [in a looong day], and from SF to HMB there's just no route that doesn't seriously risk "Hood Ornament" status on a road bike. Loved the ride above and below that part.

I'm taking a break today - I'm tired after 7 rides in the last 9 days.

Might be a stupid question but is that because of the narrowness of Highway 1 in that area?

Just got back from a road ride. A little wet at the end, but mostly good.

No photos, just nice Figure 8+ loop in the morning. Plus part coming from the fact we did Kennedy climb instead of parking at Lexington.

Weather perfect ... was. got sprinkled on the way back. 32x32 is bad gearing climbing second roller toward power lines, but we cleared them all. Also V-Brakes are bad going down. Ok not so that bad but sketchy at least. What gonna happen if tubeless setup overheats? I didn't wonna get the answer ;)

Waved to friendly ranger at the bottom of SJoseph

Happy riding.

Nice adventure on the weenie bike. 1x9 is cool. Mine is a 36 front now and it really rolls. It might be a problem in the steeps.

Well it is a highway and folks are traveling over 60 mph. And it is twisty and it is scenic. And worst of all, it is filled with tourists who are not paying attention to you. It's an extreme sport riding Highway 1 I think.

We weren't so lucky. Stumpy Steve and I rolled around 9am and got a full hour and a half of wet riding in San Rafael. That being said, the trails were holding up incredibly well. My right shoe ended up completely full of water. That being said, even soaked, it was a blast. I'm glad we went.

It's the "Devil's Slide" portion, below Pacifica that's the round in the chamber when you're playing "road bike roulette" along Hwy 1.

I'm leaving for Kennedy in about an hour...

Prolly going to climb till it starts to dump down here, then head home.

I always love it when I've ridden in the rain. I just hate it when I am riding in the rain.

True, Keep in mind the old san pedro rd out of Linda Mar is a viable option to this stretch of hellish cycling rd.
It's 1/2 paved, 1/2 fireroad, that drains real good year round. Bypasses the current death wish section of Devils Slide.
I'll take gravel-ruts option, anytime...... until this route defaults to bike-ped-horse route in 2011.
And that's gonna be fanfkkntastic when it happens!!

I hit up Quicksilver yesterday on the CX bike, and again this morning for a run (good opportunity to enjoy some of the trails that are closed to bikes).

I did a great ride down in Henry Coe yesterday. Nothing too epic, just 10 miles and 2700' total elevation gain. Trails were frozen for a good part of the ride. It's amazing how much traction you can get on a frozen trail. Towards the end of the climb they had melted and were slick as could be. Came down Middle Steer Ridge for the first time and it was awesome!! Middle Steer is the right portion of the ride's elevation profile below. Nothing like dropping 1600' straight down 2.5 miles of single track :D I posted a bunch of pics in another thread so I won't post them in this one. Here's a link though if anyone's interested http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=478184

No ride today, had WheelsJr while MsWheels was at the sports bar watching football. (Yes, she's all about the NFL, esp her Giants.) I had a great road spin yesterday, did the Calaveras res loop from Niles, took it easy except for the wall from Felter, a beautiful day, and it was good see the Team In Training out in force.

I drove down to Ord this AM and started my ride at 9:00 AM looking into a beautiful winter sky with sun light filtering through. Around 11:00 I noticed the sun had gone away and had turned mostly cloudy. The weather was coming.... Made it over to Goat and the bench above Creekside Terrace parking lot and began heading back towards East Garrision getting in Red Rock down to the road and back up 49. ziggied around those dry lake beds and decended down Blair witch (59) back aound and up behind DOD. 3.5 hrs and as I was loading my bike....I felt some sprinkles beginning to drop so I loaded up and hit the HWY back to Aptos in a light rainfall....I think I cheated the weather today. It was my lucky day.
Came home to a steady rainfall. Showered and then my wife and I delivered fresh baked pumpkin pies to four of our closest friends and had short visits with each. Just checked the rain gauge here at home and it has .45" in it so far. My lucky day today! :D
