Could anyone confirm this or help out. I currently run 44x18 on my beer run bike. The chainstay is 42.6 cm as close as i can figure. Right now i have a half link on the chain(49 links).i'm looking at the http://www.peak.org/~fixin/personal/fmu/php/index.php . Should i be able to run 33x18 for the trails and not use the half-link? I think it should work fine but need a second opinion as i'll have to order the chainring.

No on the half-link.

A 44x18 is magic for chainstay of 42.857 cm. (49.5" chain)
A 33x18 is magic for chainstay of 42.756 cm. (46.5" chain)

and no, the 33x18 won't fit - unless you're using a tensioner at 44x18.

Let me rephrase it. I use the 44x18 with 49 links and the half link,it's just a tad loose but no problems so far. It is working fine. If i use the 33x18 will it work at 46 links with no half link?

If the looseness is at least 3/4" of slack you have a chance of a fit with the 33x18, but the half link is necessary - otherwise you're not even close.
