I don't know too much about the Nexus, I only see that it's one of the more popular internal hubs? Probably because of Shimano label.

General terms, a belt drive would seem to have less maintenance than a chain, but a belt would break over time if it isn't taken care of (dry rot). Whereas a chain can break and a simple link kit can fix it without carrying a new chain/belt.

Which is why I'm asking others to find out more about them, from people that may have first-hand experience with them.

The axle on Nexus and other internal hubs isn't strong enough for ATB. It might hold up with rear suspension, but now there are other issues unless the BB is part of the swing-arm assembly.

My question is why?
