i have a stock hardrock xc (23 inch frame) that has a chain that skips like crazy when ever i try to go just a tad bit faster. im 6'8 and 300lbs which can seriously torque on the cassette. i was wondering if ther was any way of makeing some slight adjustments to rear derailer or something to helpout with the skipping that is mainly happening in the seventh gear on the cassette. or maybe would i have to get a new cassette to solve the problem?

check your chain for stiff links.. I just replaced a link on my Specialized because it was skipping like crazy in 6,7,8,9. And now no problems:thumbsup:

good luck

The chain it self was new, maybe 20 miles. I replaced a full link with a shimano 9 speed.

So after you loosen up the cable, then adjust the rear derail to make sure that it works perfectly in the smallest gear with the cable loose, then you pull on the cable and snug up the slack and tighten down the 5mm nut. You checked the 7th gear to make sure that the teeth aren't bent, right? A 300 LB pedal masher can bend that particular gear easily.
