Hi,
I'm in the process of building a DH/FR bike, and I was wondering a couple of things about chain guides. What exactly do they do, do they replace a front derailleur, or what..?

Chain guides keep tension on the chain and keep them (or at least reduce the likely hood) from jumping gears.

They do not replace a front derailleur. If you plan on have two chain rings up front you will need a front derailleur and a two ring guide such as the E-13 DRS, MRP LRP, or Blackspires stinger. The two ring guides are more chain tensioners versus true chain guides.

If you run a single ring up front, you do not need a front derailleur and you have many options for a true chain guide.

I use an E-13 DRS on my AM bike.

Basically, they keep the chain on the chainring when the bike is bouncing all over the place.

I'm buying a Truvativ Stylo 3.3 team or a Raceface Evolve XC, and I want to put a bash guard on it. i've found one (pictured) will it be compatible?
