I have the opportunity to get a Ceramic V-brake wheelset which is in great condition for almost nothing. Why would Ceramic be better than my standard wheelset? Do I need to change my brake pads? I have a V-brake setup and have no need for disks....

the ceramic rim surface will withstand brake wear much longer than a traditional aluminum rim. I had a set of Sun ceramic rims and finally had to retire the rear after 7 years on them due to a dented rim and a bad freehub, but not the rim surface. I'm still using the front wheel. You will need ceramic specific brake pads. i recomend the Kool Stop Green (i think, check with Kool Stop) pads. They work better than tthe shimanos.
