I have a set of Hayes HFX-9 brakes on my bike, and I can't get them to stop rubbing no matter what I do. I have tried countless times to set them up, but to no avail. Sometimes it's worse than others. I don't believe the rotors are bent/warped. I took them off and they laid perfectly flat on my workbench. Any suggestions/hints? I have this problem with both the front and rear brakes, and it's not always the same pad rubbing.

Is it a constant dragging, or intermittent shh...shh...shh, dependent on speed?

It's intermittent. I thought it was a bent rotor, but if it is I can't find it. Both rotors lay perfectly flat. I guess it could be something in the hub, but it's weird that both of them have the same problem. I tend to believe it's installation error on my part.

I have the same problem on my Fuel. The shop says everythings fine. But around 17mph, the front brake starts to rub. No problems with the rear.

*Check out the hub, might need to be tightened.
*You might have some wheel flex going on when you ride.
*Double check the rotors while the wheel is mounted. Put a piece of white paper on the ground and look down through the calipers to see if you can notice any slight warp.

-One thing you could try is take the wheel off, remove the pads, & reset the pistons then replace the pads and the wheel. Insert business cards between the rotor and pads (one on either side, two on either side if they fit). Pump the brakes up a few times then remove the cards. This will give the pads a little extra clearance from the rotor.
