Hello All,
I am a pure newb to mountain biking so please forgive me if my terminology is wrong. I have an old 95 Cannondale Super V 1000 and I am looking to upgrade the fork on it. From some of the people I've talked to, it seems my selection is rather limited. Is that because of the headset size? Can someone please explain? Also, i understand I can get an adapter for the headset and I can get any fork I want but my whole setup would have to change. I would just like to upgrade the fork, if I do some shopping online, what specs and I looking for? Thanks to all in advanced.

Many Cannondales are equipped with a Headshock, which is C-dale's own proprietary suspension fork system. Instead of housing the springs and damping chambers in the legs of the fork, they integrate it into an oversized steer-tube, which installs into their equally oversized headtubes.

In order to upgrade, you'll either need to find a Headshock that you like, or find an adaptor....and I have no idea where to begin looking for such a thing (I imagine even an adapter would look funky with a skinny steer tube sticking out the bottom of the fat headset). Try your local Cannondale dealer, or any local shop. They may be able to source some of those tricky parts for you.

Isn't the headshok a 1.5 headtube?

If it is, its not so complicated - you'd just need a converter (canecreek does one, and so does CK).... Then you just need a new fork - but obviously the steerer tube will be a different size so you'd need a new stem also.


Ofcourse, if its not a 1.5, it wouldn't be anywhere near so simple.
