Doing my first solo which seemed like a great idea in Janurary!
Done the team thing the last few years and always felt like a bit of a sissy flying by the solo guys on my way to a beer / nap. Anyone else going?

Hey there - my story is just about exactly the same. First solo, done the team thing, seemed good in January! Add turning 40 to mine. Excited and scared as hell too. Trained with Shaun Taylor all spring so I'm feeling good about that.
See you there!

yahsper, your first 24 Solo will always stick with you no matter how many more you do in the future. Be sure to enjoy it!

I'll be toeing the line and I'm looking forward to it. In previous year's it's been a great (but tough) Solo event. If you have any last minute questions, feel free to look me up at the racer's meeting or on Solo pit row, I'm in pit #5.

Pit 5? So you are a contender then!
Big crew from Jasper this year as we are almost 10% of the solo field. Look for the funky jerseys. According to the site map we should be right across from you.Only one real competitive rider from our area in the shape of Cory Wallace. The rest of us are just going to try to hang on for the duration. Good luck!

I just finished a 24hr here in Australia with the World 24hr Solo Champ Jason English. Holy CRAP that dude is FAST... and, a complete gent to boot. The half dozen times he lapped me, he always pulled up and had a chat. Awesome guy.

Forgot to say hi staylor... Dave pointed you out. What happened? It looked like you were riding super well. Care to share?
No real good excuse, just a pile of minor ones. I felt good for the first 12hrs but didn't take on enough cals and fluid for that heat and my pace. My pit kept telling me to take on more and I kept agreeing but just didn't execute on the 'take on more'. I figured the amount of 24's I've done should make me invulnerable but I was wrong. ;-)

My leg was bugging me from a mega-wipeout at BCBR 3wks prior, that just added to the mental games, at midnight I decided to get a bit soft and put my head down for 10mins in my pit to let things settle down. From that point on it was a downward spiral of already in the hole and mental slip, I gave up a lot of time wallowing in misery in my pit, I was simply off my game and at 0730hrs, in 8th place, I pulled the plug.

After the event I did a review of my approach to the race and other than the BCBR injury I was about 5% fitter than last year at Worlds (Canmore) and had a deeper base and I felt good on the line/pre-event. So I blew it on the weekend because in simple terms I was an idiot. ;-)

I think this event retaught me some stuff I had forgotten from my beginner days and I'm glad that it happened on the weekend rather than in Canberra in Oct.

If you see Dave, say hi and tell him I sent him an email a couple of days ago to his shop email address, [email protected] that dude has game. Looks like this year was his, so next year it's mine, hahaha.

The really scary bit is not that he won, but that he won by 3 laps and 20 minutes from 2nd place, which sort of equates to about a 3.5 lap margin in distance.

One the Women's side, looks like places 1 and 2 pulled up a bit early, but Jess Douglas was 4 or 5 laps ahead of 2nd place...
