Have a bike I'm trying to switch over to 9 speed, have cassette, shifter, chain. The cranks and chainrings were originally for 8 speed (XTM739) will they work with the Nine speed stuff? Thanks

Yes. There's no difference in chainrings. They work on either gearing.

+1 no problem using a 9s chain for 8s.
