can stans work with any wheel set?

Some wheels work better than others, due to the quality of the rim hook construction.

When you say the conversion 'didn't work', how so? Did the tyre fail to air up, did it fail to hold air, could you mount the tyre at all.

Need some details as to the troubles you're having, then we can perhaps find a solution.
