I have a 2008 Mojave 2.0..... not the best bike. Thought about upgrading to a 29er, can I just stick a 29er fork on the front and be good to go?

Yes, but you probably won't like the way it handles or climbs. Unless someone is giving you the fork and wheel to try it, save your money and buy at least an entry level 29er when you have enough.
