I recently purchased purchased a frame that is "requiring" me to purchase disc brakes and wheelset (I just hate having to justify buying disk brakes ;-)

I have purchased a set of Avid mechanical brakes. I have seen a number of wheelsets using the new XT or XTR hubs, which use the newer center lock rotors. Can the Shimano center lock rotors be used with my Avid Mech. disc brakes or are the center lock rotors only compatible with Shimano disc brakes?

Thx

Offset from the hub is the same (both are IS standard), so as long as the rotors are the correct diameter for the caliper, yes, they'll work. You do want to pay attention to the brake track width, though, as Shimano tend to use a slim track & pad which may result in the Avid pad braking against the rotor spoke.

What about using the DT adapters? They use a lockring and make any centerlock hub usable with a 6 bolt rotor. Any advantages to this system instead of using a Shimano rotor?

I am curious because I am building a set of wheels with XT hubs for a bike with Avid Mechs. I was going to use the DT adapters, but it might be cheaper to get Shimano rotors. Do they make both 160 and 185 mm rotors (I'm doing 185 front and 160 rear).

Here are the DT adapters: http://www.dtswiss.com/index.asp?fuseaction=hubs.bikedetail&id=31

Thanks.

What about older XT hubs...

I just thought of another option- I could get the older style XT hubs (I believe they're M756). They have a 6 bolt pattern instead of centerlock. Are these hubs any good? Would they be a better alternative to using M765 hubs w/ DT adapters or XT discs (For use with Avid Mechs)?

Thanks for the input, I ended up getting these hubs instead of the center locks. Simple, cheap, reliable..... HEAVY! :)
Compare them to the 755's and you'll see heavy. For the price and reliability and warranty, they're not so bad.
