Hi i was wondering what chains people are using every chain i use just seems
to stretch or snap even heavy duty freestyle bmx chains.

The trails are muddy and very gritty most of the year here maybe thats the problem
just cant get them to last.

Cheers for any info

Dan:thumbsup:

I run a standard 9 spd chain - right now, Shimano HG-93. Previously, SRAM PC-991. Both worked fine.

Are you using a lube geared towards wet weather riding? If your chainline pretty good? Are your other drivetrain components worn (chainring/cog)? Could be some other contributing factors here.

KMC for me too - make sure you have 1/8" ring/cog and that the chainline is good... Assuming no odd wear or any other "mixing old with new" etc... problems, that should work the best...

has anyone used the PC-991 HollowPin?
I used a 991 hollowpin very briefly. Snapped in classic JRA style on a geared mtb on tarmac just tootling up the street under almost no load. I wouldn't bother with one again. Gram saving is minimal, cost is excessive and offers no benefit that I can think of aside from bling factor.

course I may have got a dud, but a single bad experience of chain snapping is enough for me not to want to repeat the process.

I've used XTR chain and 991, 971, 951. due to need for a quick cheap purchase I've just got an 830, will see how it goes, the single report I've read was not glowing but I wanted to try an 8 speed chain and to stick with SRAM for the ease of joiners and the 830 was all they had. Will report back after a few decent rides.

SRAM quick links work on other chains too. I use the 9 spd gold quick link on my Shimano chain............;)

That's the chain I've got and it has been problem free through a lot of hard use and not particularly good care on my part.
