I've stayed at Petersburg campground when visiting FATS. It's about a 15 drive from FATS. But it has direct access to the Bartram Trail from the campsites. The sites are huge and the bathrooms are few and far between. But they have nice amenities. Hot showers, power and water hookups, etc...

The Bartram Trail is very fast and flat but it's long and a fun ride for beginners and advanced. I think you can link it to keg creek for a 30-40 mile epic.

There is rustic camping at the trailhead. You need a permit. There is a pit toilet, water pump, and that's about it. We stayed there two weeks ago and it was just about perfect. I wouldn't want to camp anywhere in the Augusta area after May.

Petersburg is the one I recommend. It is lake side and also has 19 miles (one way) Bartram Trail and can extend that another 9 at Keg Creek by crossing Washigton Rd. and 8 miles (?) at Mistletoe with a 3 mile road stretch.

Modoc and Hamilton Branch are also close by (about the same drive time) However they are closer to Modoc Speedway so on the weekends it may be loud.

Keep a close eye on www.sorbacsra.org for closures at FATS. There is going to be a control burn in March. As of 3/13 it has not happened. Tower and Big Rock will not be effected by the burn and will remain open. I would get directions to other trail head just incase FATS is closed when you do come.
