I'm from KC and am thinking about coming out and riding the firecracker 50. I was thinking of going as cheaply as possible and pitching a tent somewhere close to the race.
Any reccommendations?

There are several FS pay camp grounds around Lake Dillon which is about 20 min from Breckenridge. there is free "dispersed" camping up the Forks of the swan river (Tiger road) that you can get to without 4wd. (be forewarned though, this is an area that has lots of motorized use) There are a few camping spots up Spruce Creek road just tothe south of Breckenridge. There are also some camping spots off of Boreas Pass road near Bakers Tank (right on the course) and a little further up.

Be aware, any camping near Breckenrige will be at a premium that week.

I was thinking within an hour or two that was on the way.
I found some campgrounds that were first come first serve in Dillon.
I just wonder if everything will be full by the time I get there.

An hour or TWO?!?

There are approximatel 14,235 campsites within two hours of Breck. You should be able to find something.
