Just ordered one of these for a project I'm working on -



7.4V 1800mAh

Project involves single XPG driven by a 500mA teapot driver.

Anyone tried using them before? - Anyone got any recommendations for a protection PCB? - Ideally within the UK?

I'll post up results when it arrives.

If it is more than 1000mAh, then I'll be happy enough :)

Just found this one on ebay -



Anyone recognise it?

From what I understand, it seems the battery is connection to B- and B+, Charge/Feed to P-/P+ and COM goes between the two cells?

Can anyone confirm please?

Ok, well that would make things a lot simpler, so just put a load on it and measure the voltage and see if it cuts out as it discharges when it should?

I have used camcorder battery packs just like the one pictured.. Built in protection and the true capacity is around 1400mah.

I've never used them before, but some of them are marked at 7v depending which one you get (I don't know why), I've had the 500mA running for a while off a 6v supply and didn't notice any issue.

They look like a great little driver.

I paid 7 quid for the battery inc postage from ebay, so if it works out, then it might be a good solution for a small lightweight battery.

Just reporting back on the camera battery, it does have protection built in as everyone suggested :)

Here are some pictures for size comparison. (It's not intended for the Hammond light) I've not measured real mAh yet, but seems really good.

Soldered onto the connections, glued in place, then covered with heat shrink. Maybe not one to try if you aren't so quick with an iron.

I had a few people ask me about the charger for the camera battery, I've just done another one so thought I would include some photos along the way.

Cheap charger which can be had for a about £5-10 from various online shops including ebay.


Pull the top part down to separate the charger and battery interface.



Open up to reveal the connections.


Drill the bottom of the outer shell and solder on connections to the charger.


Secure everything in place with the glue gun
Reassemble.

I am planning to use one of this battery for a helmet light. Do you think it would be possible to use the top part of the charger to attach the battery to the light - just push it into this holder on the light instead of the holder of a camcorder?

Could you send us the link to the battery and charger please?

Did you test what current you can draw out of the little battery before the protection triggers?

It might be, although you probably want to strap it down somehow. I've not tested the current draw cut off, but I've pulled about 3 amp without problem. If you look on eBay for "gx-10 battery" you can't miss them.

That looks like a Sony camera battery that I have been using for a while. Mine was 7.4v 3300mah. Pulled it apart and parallel wired it to run a straight driven P7 thats been working great. Only about an hour run time, but I mostly do shuttled DH runs. BTW. SONY NP-FH30 was the one I used.
