I'm going to visiting a buddy of mine who moved out to Huntington Beach and would very much like to get some riding in while I'm out there. Since I'm only probably going to be there a few days, I really don't want to go through the trouble of boxing/unboxing/reboxing/unboxing my X-Cal for a day/day and a half of riding. That being said, I was wondering if there were any 29er friendly shops in the area that would be so gracious as to rent me some 29er goodness while I'm there.

I'm not going probably until mid October, so there's no rush, but at the same time, I just want to get an idea so I know what to expect and plan accordingly.

Any info. would be a great help. Thanks guys!

None that I know of, rental shops that is. But if anyone can help you in the OC and 29ers, it's The Path Bike Shop. Give them a ring and see what they can do for you.

In Santa Monica, Cynergy Cycles stocks Niners and Niner is gonna have demo program with them in the future, just talk for now but maybe by October who knows?

Hey man, thanks for the help. I defintiely appreciate the response, though I'm surprised and a bit disappointed that only one poster responded. I know there are heaps more riders from that area on these boards..

if i were a bit closer to the OC I would simply loan you one of my bikes....but I am a bit away.

I am sure there are some OC dawgs that can hook you up with a loaner http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=44099

perhaps also post in the SoCal forum....that is what I would do.

The Path (in Tustin, CA) usually has a demo 20" Kona Unit 2-9 built up. It's their test ride bike, but call them and they just might rent it out to ya if you ask.

I just got back from Cynergy Cycles (Santa Monica, CA) yesterday and they have three Niner bikes built up there: rigid SS One, gear'd EMD, and gear'd SIR 9. All three are built up as demo rides. When you visit, give them a call and see if they can arrange a special rental for you. I took the EMD 9 out for a spin and it's a sweet bike.

Posting in the SoCal forum was a good suggestion. There are so many of us bike whores here, maybe if you post a request for a group ride, the gang will show up and someone will bring an extra ride.

When checking with The Path, ask them if they have scheduled group ride, they may loan out something on group rides.

Thanks again, meat tooth paste! I will definitely check out both options. The mere possiblity of renting anything from the Niner line has me a bit giddy! I'll get more info. from both shops as the time gets closer to when I'm supposed to leave.

I'll check upon the group ride tip as well.

I'm 5'9, 150 lbs. and currently ride a medium '05 GF X-Cal.
