Step up.

This race rules. ~5 hrs for the 50 mile winner, ~10 hrs for the 100 mile winner. I'm still trying to get my 50 mile time down to 7 hours. Awesome terrain, much of it on the Continental Divide Trail, ridiculous amount of climbing, Tinker Juarez will be back. Hope to see you there.

They call it "Butte Hill Spring Water" (100 years of mining in a bottle). That shiz sells in France for $5 for a 10 oz bottle. Fashion designers drink that spoo all the time.

As for Butte single track, it's some of the best in the Northern Rockies.

Butte's 5 minutes from Montana.
Thanks for posting the link, Ed! We're working on a lot of the growing pains we experienced last year. The biggest changes in store for 2011 are:

*2 lap format for the 100--this ensures we'll have plenty of volunteers to serve the racers
*Automated timing system
*Better start/finish and aid station accommodations
*Official GPS tracks
*Race "bible" sent out to all the riders

Hope to see everyone in Butte in July! Keep checking www.butte100.com for the latest updates.

Ryan, I have entered the "50" version of this race since year one (I did the 50 km race that year but DNF'd due to a broken seat). Second year I got lost and rode around 64 miles before finishing, so I know the frustration and agony of getting lost. The following year I had the course route pre-ridden and memorized, I just neglected to stay properly hydrated and suffered awful cramps about halfway through which required about an hour of rest before continuing! But I did finish. I had to miss last year due to becoming a father of twins. But I closely followed the forums and feedback from friends who raced about the number of lost racers. I sympathized because I had been through that before. Solution = pre riding and knowing the route beforehand! This year my participation is still up in the air, but I am hoping I'll have the time to do it.

I applaud the effort to hammer the route into the racers' heads before the race begins, I think it is the most you can do short of lead/sweep motos which I don't think is possible on the CDT. But the mandatory racer's meeting the night before throws a wrench into things for folks like me who maybe can't really afford the time to stretch this into a 2 day event (3 day if I was to stay for awards on Sunday). How about a gotomeeting webcast or conference call option?

Thanks, Ed! The GoToMeeting idea might be an option... I'll be sure to bring it up at our B100 meeting tomorrow night with Bob and the gang.

Hope to see you there

Glad to hear you are still riding with twins. My wife and I have 3 1/2 month old twins and the summer itinerary is up in the air for sure. I'm hoping to pull off the 50 this year, 100 is out of the question though. If you have any advice do let me know. Hopefully you'll make it this summer! Like Ryan says, the course should be pretty dialed in this year. With chip timing and post race festivities this should be a good year for sure!

Congratulations on the twins! Are these your first kids? These twins are our first. I would recommend sleep training them early, you will be much happier in the later months if they can put themselves to sleep in their cribs. Riding time for me was slim to none for the first summer. I had Butte 50 plans too, but ditched them early on when I realized there was no tIme to train. I did the unravel the Scratchgravel XC race in May and suffered terribly. Then I only had 1 day per week to ride and that won't cut it for Butte 50/100 prep. It is tough to find time in that first summer to ride. Good luck to you, for me it didn't happen. This year is already going better because we moved and I have a longer bike commute to work. Hardly "training", but better than nothing. I'll use unravel the Scratchgravel again as a test of if I can attempt Butte 50.
