Building Jumps

I have access to 400 hay bales for free, and was thinking about building a few sets of doubles. Anyone got advice? How long till the jumps collapse from the hay decomposing? What is the minimum amount of dirt that will be needed?

I was thinking of doing this too. I wonder if it would help to water down the bales before piling the dirt on so they may pack as much as possible so the jumps dont collapse... My only imput...

cowan built his huge dirt jumps in montana with hay bails, you can see them in that one NWD video, not sure wich one. So its definetly possible but i have no idea how long they will last.

No worries about watering them.... they've been out in the rain for quite some time now

Well if you gonna get alot of wet hay bails dont store them in a closed area they can explode(internaly combust)

Don't use them for anything more than side framing/containment. They WILL decompose and your jumps WILL suck when that happens..

Ask zachdank about it.

if you are not worried about them lasting for a lond time then go ahead and do it

let me know.... i'm thinking I will go get some after christmas. They are out in JC, at my buddies place. big heavy fookers, gonna take a few trips. but like I say, he has 400 bales, and said I can have as many as I want
