so i am building a bike for a friend who has got little to no fund and want to join in on some rides. I did found him a frame its an old 10 speed bike frame but like i said no money for anything else.

the goal is to make it offroad capable i already have a bunch of parts i can use on it; mtb crank, flat handlebar,brake levers,shifter,derailleur ,i even have a couple forks.

But the real problem is the wheel size

should we stay with the 27" tires and run cyclocross type 27x1 3/8

run 700C wheels with 700x38 tires

or run 26" wheels

brakes are not a problem sidepull,canteliver or V-brakes i can add bosses to the frame or make an adapter for now.

i already have the wheels or can get a set of all those sizes at a local going down business sale for 10$ a set

keep in mind the guy has no money he just want to have some pleasure riding

i dont know if it's wise to try and make a mtb out of a road frame. check ebay or your local craigslist, i'm sure you should be able to find a cheap mtb or at least a suitable mtb frame.

So Basically you want to build him a Cyclo Cross bike? Road Frame, with off road tires?

yeah basically but a more geared toward the hybrid genre (with the mountain bike handlebar)
