Building an EVO

1815 Views 13 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Thor821
I am getting ready to order parts to build up an EVO. Any suggestions aon parts to order? I live in Colorado and need it to be able to climb but still be beefy enough for light downhill at some of the local ski resorts. Not too worried about weight but would like to keep it under 35 lbs.

How about.........

Totem, Deity Dirty30, Twenty6 50mm stem, Shimano XT Servo, 2.5 Minion DHF 3C, 2.35 Highroller 60D, Hope Pro II laced to Syncros DS28 with DT Comp spokes. SRAM XO shifting...
This should be called how to make a bike suck at climbing

short stem is good. 2.35 highrollers at the most. fox 36 talas or lyrik two step. save your money on the xo shite and get x9 and the best wheels you can afford to wreck that way you are only focusing on the ride and not if you are going to ding your overbling wheels. azonic outlaws are okay but heavy. The trick is going tubeless. I run the syncros ds 28s and they are okay for tubless but the dt 5.1ds are much better. You will destroy these rims in a season but they are light and fast and hold tubeless perfectly. The mavic 721's are also very good.
this is where i am at right now but willing to take suggestions as this is the first bike i have built from the ground up.
Fox talas 36
xtr shifters
xt crank
xt FD
XT shadow RD
sram 990 cassette
sram 991 non-hollow pin chain
FSA Gravity carbon DH bars
Hope tech m4 203 front 185 rear
Mavic 819 rims laced to hadley hubs
thomson 50mm 0 degree stem
Crank Bros Joplin seatpost
schwalbe fat albert 2.4 front and rear UST tires

probably an E13 drs bashguard chainguide. Nver run a dual ring setup could use some advice

Dual ring is awesome, 22X34 or 36 with a bash. Front derailleur is adjusted so it stops at the middle ring using the adjusting screw.

If you decide to go 3 ring and will be riding aggressive I would suggest a bash to protect your leg. :eekster:

Any recomendations for what works well for a chainguide on the EVO or any chainguides people have had problems with? Also I thought about the xtr rear derailleur but thought i will be too rough for it.
That should come in nice, Im specing out mine right now. Should be done by March.
07 Evo (got a smokin deal)
X0 rear der
XT front der
X9 shifters
fox 36rc
I9s laced to 5.1s
xt hollow tech cranks
e-13 drs
Xpedo mag pedals
thomson stem 50mm
dirty thirty bars
SDG Ibeam and Ifly saddle

I do more freeride than anything but still want a fairly light build but beefy enough to hold 230lbs of aggression!
Look forward to seeing your build! Pics!!!!

I run a short cage x9 with a super short chain length that only lets me shift into the 24 rear from a 32t ring with a front derail and a bash guard. I ripped miles of wicked downhill and have only ever droped my chain a couple of times. It works perfect!!

For chainguides I would go with e.13 - the EVO runs ISCG 05.
What duel ring guide for a pre ISCG mount Evo

I'm building up a 2007 Evo which has no ISCG mount. I ran an E13 DRS on an old Bullit and it worked great but the Evo has the E-Type front deraileur added into the mix. I am wondering if they will work together or if there is another type that would be better like a LRP, Blackspire Stinger or Heim Guide. Feel free to chime in Chumba!

You will need one of these if you use an e-thirteen drs system.
