Building a cheap freeride bike.

I'd like to get together a freeride bike to mess around with. Any suggestions for a build under a G? Used is fine. $500 or under, possible to get quality?

you could get a bighit spec for around 900, its close, but its under $1000-http://www.specialized.com/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=6743
You might be able to get a used bighit for around 500.But 500 is pretty low..
If someone was actually free-riding with their free ride bike, I wouldn't buy it. It's hard to predict the safety of something that has been dropped/crashed... etc. Your best bet is a hardtail (Haro 8.2, Spec P.2). You might be able to find a closeout deal if you shop around.
hey,im selling my hartail for $650.It would be a light freeride bike and mostly a dirt jumper but it would work.Interested?

dude...

(thats a spam...shhhhhhhh...i wont tell anyone if u dont)
Might look around for a bighit from someone who didn't really ride it and found out its too heavy. I want something to beat on, but I'm already too old and beat up to ride a hardtail.
