Hi,

I'm looking for a budget friendly option for a fork. At first, I thought going for R7, but I'm not sure I need all the running it has.
Than, I saw the Machete which I don't know how it works - but with the ABS+ upgrade it can be a nice option. But again, I'm getting close to the R7 Expert price.

Anyone here can recommend any nice fork for around 450usd? (And without MoCo..)

Thanks,
Mor

I was researching similar recently (for a trail hardtail, so a bit more travel than you are looking). Based on reviews, build quality, and serviceability, I would go with the mattoc comp for a roughly $500 price point. But no one has the 120 (adjustable 80-140) in stock, only the 100 (which most don't have long enough stanchions to extend to 120-140 mm). I ended up going complete bike route with a marzocchi b2, which also gets really good reviews, but just isn't as user friendly for service (from what I read) and requires a different air shaft to change travel (mattoc is add or remove spacers internally).

It's just a name that describes bikes that sit between traditional CX and trail. So CX thats more capable on the down hills, might be full squish, a little slacker, a little more travel like 120mm and a dropper.
what the **** is trail riding? I rode a trail yesterday off a mountain. CX is road racing on grass.

The current Machete is the R7 chassis and can't be upgraded to ABS+ as the threads have changed from the previous Machete Boost. You can put a R7 Expert VTT damper in it but it's a lot more expensive upgrade than ABS+ was.

So better to go straight for the R7 Expert.

WTF is down country riding
It's cross-country with added marketing.

Down country.
The media lies...except when they tell you something something longer-lower-slacker, then you gobble it up.
