noticed a broken spoke today after a ride. i could remember back when i got the bike a guy said that i should look into beefing up the back rim... u guys find that needed?

Just try replacing the spoke and riding it out. If more spokes break, it'll probably be safer to get a new wheel. But why waste $$$?

I agree, get it (the spoke) replaced.. if it happens again soon relace it. If that doesn't resolve it then start looking at a new wheel.

Yeah, esp since i doubt the bike-shop did it.

Just go quickly tap each of the spokes with a screw-driver and listen to the tone... if a few sound really high then you probably need to relax and tension the wheel better. Might as well get stronger spokes before you go for the whole rim/hub, just take it to a shop that is known for building wheels.
