noticed a broken spoke today after a ride. i could remember back when i got the bike a guy said that i should look into beefing up the back rim... u guys find that needed?

Just go quickly tap each of the spokes with a screw-driver and listen to the tone... if a few sound really high then you probably need to relax and tension the wheel better. Might as well get stronger spokes before you go for the whole rim/hub, just take it to a shop that is known for building wheels.
