Mods, any chance of a return?
I whole heartedly support this request! In some ways, my post from a few weeks ago was a passive way of asking the same question.

IMO this forum needs less categories, not more.
Yeah, maybe. But in reality, if they want to have a thriving community, then they need to give the people what they want/need (or the community will go elsewhere). Now, I know that doesn't mean everyone who requests some odd sub-niche forum should get it....but the Endurance Forum was the primary place I hung out back in the previous format MTBR, and it was quite alive and healthy. Seems that has been lost now.

I'm all for it, but this time of year, and with Covid going on, there isn't a whole lot of Endurance chatter online right now. Even if you get what you ask for it may not get a lot of traction (clicks) until next summer which may turn off the decision makers of MTBR.

I really enjoy the topic, and I'll continue to follow the discussions here so long as I keep doing endurance races. But it would be nicer if it had its own category. It really IS a different discussion than most other XC racing topics.

Agree on all accounts. However, endurance chatter is somewhat geographically dependent. Here in the south (Austin, TX) we ride year round and The Rattler (Leadville Qualifyer) was this weekend. So we could definitely have some chatter about that in this "low seasonal time". Additionally, our endurance series runs Nov 13th- Jan 29th, so in some ways its 'high season' for us distance people in Central TX.

Was thinking about this this morning. As it might seem like combining them may have been a good idea, the 2 disciplines as they apply to the type of content, use, info that they get here on MTBR are different IMHO. XC feels like more of a local scene and the content is centered around going fast. How many of us (who ride XC) actually travel around to those events outside of our local/regional geography? Where as the endurance scene feels more like its centered around national-regional events that many of us (may even) travel across the country for. These are more 'monument' or 'bucket list' type of events where stories, training, logistics are all shared and stored in the forum content.

Thus on the surface, combining XC & Endurance seems like a rational thing to do. But, from MY perspective, the content, crowd and scene are notably different.

Cheers,
CJB

I prefer them being combined.
Ditto.

The endurance forum barely got traffic before it was combined. They belong together. It was just a forum of “who’s doing this race” and “what tire for this race, I’ve never been”. “Transfer entry fee”…

It seems pretty elitist to want to separate them because someone personally doesn’t want to “go fast”. Some of us are trying to go fast, not just finish. I’d like the advice from all those, especially those who can give perspective of going all out, not just out for a big day on the bike.

This coming from someone who does every marathon in the state of Texas, and some surrounding states, and epic rides series. I’m going as fast as I possibly can. Sometimes too fast and you learn lessons, but that happens less thee days.

What's stopping people from making a 2022 Leadville thread or any other Endurance race thread here in this forum...nothing. I like reading about racing strategies and tire choices for races ranging from 1 hour to 100 milers. I think they should be kept together because you use similar bikes whether racing XCC, XCO or XCM.

I personally would love to race reports and experiences, from all. I’d love to have a race report sticky.

I use virtually the same equipment racing XCM or XCO. Actually, I do very little different between the two except pace slightly differently, but even then it is less of a pace difference than you would imagine. Actually, I just looked at a couple races and compared them; an XCO race that took 2 hours, and an NUE race that took nearly 6 hours. I did virtually the same average and NP, at virtually the same elevation (same venue, different course), on the exact same bike setup, only a few months apart. I am actually currently planning on traveling a bit next year (if things work out) for some XCO races. The year after probably do the same for some XCM races.

So for me, XCO and XCM are the same thing, which is why I like the combined forum.
