Racer's Edge changed its name to Colorado Freeride. Then the original owner sold it but most of the staff stayed. Then it changed hands again and most of the staff left. A couple weeks ago it closed. The original staff now works at Breck Velo.

I just moved back to Summit after a four year stint in Denver and I'm really surprised by the lack of good bike shops. Especially on the Dilverthorne side of the county. Frisco has a few but even Wilderness sports, who was voted best shop in the county, carries very little in the way of bike gear and it's mostly specialized. Really bummed about the demise of Racers Edge. MSO has basically thrown in the towel and caters to the bike-path-cruiser- crowd.

More like only in the Dilverthorne side of the county. The only knock I can think of against Avalanche or Breck Velo is their limited inventory. They keep most things you'd need in stock but it's not financially feasible for most shops to keep "one of everything" around. BTi orders only take a day or two so they can get you what you need faster than online retailers.

Don't be. The same mechanics can be found operating Breck Velo. I'm headed there in a minute to get spokes.

True, and if you'd have known the Racers Edge (colorado freeride) the last couple years, you'd be be glad it's gone. Poor ownership, and customer service.

I think this is a trend you'll be seeing more and more as internet retail takes over. LBS's just can't compete.

The guys at Breck Velo know what they can and can't compete on. They don't waste money keeping a line of bikes from a major company or a cabinet of derailleurs. They have vintage 10speeds and townies, Evil DH bikes, steel 29er singlespeeds, and wool jerseys. Chris can also do expert work on suspension, disc brakes, wheel builds, ect.
Avalanche sells their old rental bikes, keeps a few new bikes on the floor, and can order anything from Santacruz and Yeti but they focus on rentals and repairs. They know you came to Breck to ride, not to buy a new bike.

If you're in Breck and want to rent a carbon Yeti or Santacruz (including a fleet of Tall Boys) go to Avalanche Sports. If you need an emergency repair or want to check out a unique shop stop by Breck Velo.

I agree with the MSO comments. They used to be good, but things have changed. If you don't want to drive to Breck you should really check out Podium Sports in Frisco. They are new, but have their **** together.

Yeah, I went into Podium twice the other day. Does anyone work there? Didn't see any employees either time. Wasn't trying to get anyones attention either though. Just browsing, but I could have easily ridden out with a $4k Rock Mountain FS 29er! Not that I would, but it would have been really easy.

They have some nice stuff in there and I hope they do well.

They run a pretty tight crew. Tuesday and Wednesday they have a mechanic and one other guy on. I've always had great service there. They have one or the more respected techs in the county working PT there. Gibe'em another shot. If their not there walk out with a new Rocky
