On my mod list for my new Norco Fluid HT1 will be brakes. Looks like I will go with SRAM G2. My question is, can I flush my factory brake lines with alcohol before swapping over to DOT5?

Thanks.

First of all, don't confuse DOT 5.1 with DOT 5, they're very different.

Second, there's no need to flush out with alcohol, just flush with DOT 5.1. Even if you did, alcohol (isopropyl) contains water which is what you don't want in those brake lines as DOT 5.1 is hygroscopic (absorbs water).

Great! Thank you.

i have always flushed the brake fluid on my vehicles on a 2 year cycle just for the reasons you mentioned.
